Grasslands are among the most species-rich terrestrial ecosystems in the world. They provide habitat for a wide variety of plants and animals and perform important ecosystem functions. However, no two grasslands are alike. A variety of abiotic and biotic factors, as well as human use, influence grassland communities. This presentation will provide insight into how different levels of fertilization, mowing frequencies and harvesting methods affect seed bank, seed production and the establishment of new species in meadows.
Alois Fundneider, botanist in the grassland management working group at Laimburg research centre, is researching the flora of meadows and pastures as part of his work and PhD.
The event can also be followed online on the Museum’s YouTube channel.
