Shrinking glaciers are the most obvious manifestation of climate change in the Alps, affecting biodiversity and water quality and quantity. Some species are threatened with extinction, those most specialized in living in the cold, in clean, well-oxygenated water. These include the “ice fly”, a mosquito that can hibernate and that is doomed to disappear along with the glaciers and the panorama that we may be the last generation to see at high altitude.
Valeria Lencioni, Researcher at the MUSE-Museo delle Scienze in Trento. For more than 20 years she has been studying insects living in Alpine streams, in Italy and abroad (Arctic and Karakorum), as bio-indicators of ongoing climate and environmental changes.
The colloquium will take place at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 10th, at the Museum of Nature South Tyrol in Italian language. Admission is free. Online registration is required.
